We haven't done Ride and Tie events, have seen it a few times, have wanted to try it but haven't yet. It's sort of like some of the people/animal competitions like at Leadville and other places, seems. We used to do something like this for fun, when a bunch of us competed in trail running; one guy had an Arab he was training for endurance events, we'd take turns running/hiking and riding on backcountry trails. I've always enjoyed both hiking and riding, so I end up off my horse leading on the trail a good part of the time anyway - sometimes on the trail people ask me what's wrong with my horse - heh heh. Ride and Tie sounds like fun and a good way to stay in shape. Give 'er a whirl! Let us know how it goes, 2Rocky.

It seems to be a little more popular in the North West than in other parts of the country.
What part of the country are you in?
the NorthWest also seems to have more of the Mounted Orienteering. I've got some friends up around seattle that do a lot of that.
South Western Colorado has a strong following of NATRC Competitive Trail Riding. Which I enjoyed when I did that. Utah leans more to AERC endurance events.. |
